Raising Him Different

A portrait series exploring the quiet tenderness between fathers and sons and the changing shape of modern masculinity.

Fatherhood is changing and so is the way we bring up the next generation of boys.

As our son sits crying, I watch my husband comfort him. There’s no shying away from his feelings. “Let it out, I’m here for you”. Our boy screams and shouts, but his dad sits there with him, validating, co-regulating.

This project is a study of modern fatherhood, where strength and tenderness coexist. In a shift away from stern, top-down fathering we see more warmth, involvement and support for boys’ emotional expression.
