As He Is is an ongoing portrait series of my husband, Hiroki, exploring how identity is shaped through the roles, relationships and everyday moments that make up a life. Made across our home and family life, the photographs consider the many versions of one person—father, husband, friend and individual—without allowing any single characteristic to define him. The work asks how portraiture can move beyond first impressions to reveal the quieter complexities of who someone is.
